Annual Time Trial Meet Tests Eagle Runners
8/14/21 – Milton, GA – By Andy Carr
The cross-country teams at Milton opened their season today with their annual time trial meet on the Milton High School home course, known as one of the toughest courses in the state and came away with many outstanding performances to begin their 2021 campaign.
GIRLS RACE
The first race of the day saw two of the fastest races ever run on the Milton course! Leading early and then holding off a very late in the race stiff challenge, sophomore Ella Grace Malcom (1st-20:54) ran to the 5th best performance by a Lady Eagle runner on the Milton course. But not to be outdone, finishing less than a second behind, junior Farrah Frith (2nd-20:54), who led a few times during the race, gave Malcom all that she could handle all the way to the finish line recording the 6th best performance on the Milton home course by a Lady Eagle runner! Senior captain Jessica Albregts (3rd-23:16) followed and ran most of the race by herself but put in a solid race effort and was followed by sophomore Calista Cacciatore (4th-23:40) who led the team at the state meet last fall. In a thrilling final-stretch finish, sophomore Leelah Dennis (5th-23:47) just edged-out senior Megan Stechschulte (6th-23:47) as freshman Ivy Rindt (7th-24:22) rounded out the top-7 overall finishers.
BOYS RACE
The time trial race for the boys had very few close finishes as the Eagles look to set their varsity squad heading into their first meet of the regular season this coming Saturday. Junior Cory Chambers (1st-18:28) led from the start and except for the first 1000 meters, was never challenged and raced to the overall victory. Sophomore Zach Patell (2nd-19:31) ran his first race on his home course and put in a very strong performance while also running much of the race alone. A big race from junior Pearson Gillam (3rd-19:51) brought him into the finish before the 20-minute mark. The next four finishers finished within the next minute which shows the Eagles will be a strong team this fall. Juniors Oliver Stone (4th-20:02) and Jack Rea (5th-20:33) along with senior captain Charlie Reynolds (6th-20:50) and surprising freshman Justin Sevel (7th-20:54) closed out the top-Eagle finishers.
The Milton cross country teams next head to Winder, GA, and the Wildcat Country Opener at Apalachee High School where in 2019 the Eagles won all of the 4 races contested at the meet.
