The Milton Eagle cross country teams opened their regular season campaign with dominating team victories at the Apalachee Season Opener Cross Country Meet.
BOYS VARSITY
The Eagles first team victory of the day was a close one on the way to a sweep of all the team races. Milton (1st-30 pts) outdistanced nine other scoring schools to get their first team win of the season. Dacula (2nd-45 pts) and Forsyth Central (3rd-91 pts) trailed. The Eagles were again led by junior Cory Chambers (1st-16:55), the time trial champion from last weekend. Cory used a strong move in the last 400 meters to take overall honors. In his first race of the season, senior Dylan Bowden (3rd-17:09) gave Milton a great 1-2 punch and were followed by sophomore Zach Patell (6th-17:47). The Eagles sealed the team victory with the 16-second spread of their next three finishers that included juniors Pearson Gillam (9th-18:19), Oliver Stone (11th-18:27) and sophomore Jack Rea (13th-18:35). Senior captain Charlie Reynolds (22nd-19:34) was Milton’s final varsity finisher.
VARSITY GIRLS
Milton (1st-24 pts) used a dominating 1-2 overall finish along with a very tight pack of finishers to easily outdistance seven scoring schools. Region foe Alpharetta (2nd-95 pts) and Dacula (3rd-97 pts) were way in arrears from the Lady Eagles. In a replay of last weekend’s time trial, Milton junior Farrah Frith (1st-19:49) battled fellow Lady Eagle sophomore Ella Grace Malcom (2nd-19:49) all the way to the line with Frith getting the nod this time around. Frith and Malcom easily outpaced Karsyn Rodney (3rd-20:36) of Dacula with a big surge midway thru the race. Sophomore Calista Cacciatore (6th-21:30) led a string of Milton finishers that would lead the Lady Eagles to a dominating team victory! Fellow sophomore Leelah Dennis (7th-21:53), senior captain Jessica Albregts (8th-21:55), senior Megan Stechschulte (9th-21:58) and freshman Ivy Rindt (10th-21:58) all followed Cacciatore to seal the win!
