Milton’s cross-country teams again qualified for the GHSA state championship meet and will contend for a podium/top-4 finish in 2 weeks.
Varsity Boys
The Eagles are headed back to Carrollton, GA and the GHSA State Championship meet for the 13th consecutive year and for the 20th time in the last 22 years as Milton (3rd-69 pts) bested three schools. Host West Forsyth (1st-51 pts) and Lambert (2nd-58 pts) barely edged the Eagles for the region title.
Senior captain Cory Chambers (1st-15:39) captured the region title (Milton’s first since Sam Bowers in 2017) in a very close finish with Kushan Patel (2nd-15:39) of Lambert! Chambers bided his time staying in the lead group before taking charge with about a half-mile to go in the race and held off Patel at the line. The Eagles were able put down three other schools with the solid pack running of junior Zach Patell (14th-16:31), sophomore Justin Sevel (15th-16:33) and senior Pearson Gillam (18th-16:42). Senior Keller Wilson (23rd-17:04), junior Danny Murray (24th-17:07) and senior captain Oliver Stone (27th-17:12) round out the Milton squad that has qualified for the state meet!
Varsity Girls
Milton (3rd-63 pts) fell just short of a region title and duplicated their region finish from a year ago in qualifying for the GHSA State Championship meet for the 9th consecutive year and the 18th time in the last 20 years. The Lady Eagles were barely beaten by Lambert (1st-53 pts) and South Forsyth (2nd-55 pts) while besting three region rivals. Leading Milton was senior captain and newly crowned homecoming queen Farrah Frith (4th-19:02), whose all-time best performance individually qualified her for the state meet by placing in the Top 6 overall. Frith was never out of the lead group and moved into fourth during the last mile of the race. Fellow senior Sydney Anderson (8th-19:32) ran to her 2nd best performance as juniors Ella Grace Malcom (13th-20:05) and Calista Cacciatore (15th-20:22) were next for the Lady Eagles. Big races from senior Emmaline Kelley (23rd-21:04), junior Emmerson Armistead (28th-21:17) and sophomore Ivy Rindt (21:54) propelled Milton to the state championship meet.
JV Boys
Milton (3rd-51 pts) was in the hunt for the region title for the entire race. The Eagles bested three schools while falling to Lambert (1st-40 pts) and West Forsyth (2nd-45 pts). Senior Jack Rea (1st-17:19) took command with about 800 meters to go and held off a late-charge from Lambert’s Connor Mumford to take the overall race victory. Junior Luke Erbey (10th-18:00) won the last individual medal while running a personal best. Junior Eric Rasmituth (11th-18:02) and seniors Andrew Ramsey (13th-18:10) and Ethan Hagel (16th-18:18) closed out the Milton scorers.
JV Girls
In the best team placing of the meet for Milton (2nd-39 pts), the Lady Eagles turned back four schools to finish as runner-up. Host West Forsyth (1st-27 pts) just beat out Milton for the team victory. Senior Gabby Beckman (2nd-22:12) paced the Lady Eagles and was in the top-5 the entire race. Other medal winners for Milton included sophomores Macy Schadt (7th-22:29), Grace Lochman (8th-22:30) and Ella Franke (10th-22:45). Closing out the Lady Eagle scorers was senior Ella Butler (12th-22:48) running her final race in a Milton uniform.
