September 26th – Fairburn, GA -By Coach Andy Carr
The Milton Cross Country teams travelled to south metro-Atlanta to the Fulton County Cross Country Championships and scored two runner-up team finishes along with one individual title.
JV Boys
The Eagles faced a strong challenge from cross-town rivals Roswell (1st-16 pts) as Milton (2nd-64 pts) defeated 9 scoring schools including Riverwood (3rd-73 pts) & North Atlanta (4th-138 pts) to garner runner-up honors. The championships were revived by North Springs HS after a 3-year hiatus as the Eagles had hosted the meet from 2011-2017 and the meet had not been contested until today.
Milton was led by junior Davis Hobbs (5th-19:00) and the inspiring race by senior Ryan Braswell (7th-19:25) and a strong effort by junior Ethan Marcum (8th-19:29). Scoring team members also included senior Brendan Trainor (29th-20:23) & junior Nolan Thompson (20:54). 139 runners finished the boy’s race.
JV Girls
The Lady Eagles put down a gallant effort and almost won the title as Roswell (1st-27 pts) just out-paced Milton (2nd-38 pts) for the overall win. The Lady Eagles turned back four scoring programs in their race to second place. Sophomore Annalise Crow (1st-22:32) raced with the early leader and just passed halfway, moved to the front and continued to extend her lead all the way to the finish beating the runner-up by 50 seconds! One of the best races of the day came from senior Maddie Robertson (3rd-23:41) as she moved up from 15th place at the mile to almost catch the early race leader from Roswell. Strong and ever-improving races came from senior co-captain Anne Marie Lessig (5th-24:03) & senior Kate Keneck (17th-25:50) put Milton in a spot to take the title. Fellow senior Sydney Bobe (26th-27:12) ran to a top-30 finish to close out the scorers for Milton to solidify the team’s runner-up position. There were 80 finishers in the girl’s race.
