Eagle Cross Country Teams Host Successful Home Invitational

Over 1300 runners and 30 high schools tackled the very difficult home cross country course on the campus of Milton HS and over six races, Milton was able to defend and recapture the Eagle Cup at the 11th Milton Cross Country Invitational.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Eagles faced many formidable foes from around the state including many top teams in the 5A classification. Milton (3rd-101 pts) triumphed over 18 teams but were turned back by region foes Johns Creek (1st-56 pts) & Chattahoochee (2nd-68 pts). The Lady Eagles were led by the duo of senior Macy Schadt (4th-21:42) & junior Caroline Spain (6th-21:48) who consistently moved up during the race to finish in the top-10. Senior Ella Franke (21st-23:03) followed with sophomores Lucie Gallagher (36th-23:54) & Aarushi Dhawan (41st-24:09) closing out the scoring for Milton.
Varsity Boys
In the final race of the meet, Milton (1st-55 pts) turned back 20 schools to secure the race win. Top-ranked 4A Cambridge (2nd-66 pts) & 6A South Forsyth (3rd-91 pts) were closest to the Eagles. Senior captain Justin Sevel (2nd-17:17) contented for the overall win the entire race to lead the Milton team. Junior Everett Lawder (6th-17:54) ran consistently in the top-5 and was closely followed by sophomore Will Chambers (11th-18:01) & junior Jayin Batra (14th-18:09). Senior Aviv Oshri (26th-18:46) ran a massive course personal best to be the final Eagle scorer in this significant team victory.
JV Girls
The Lady Eagles ran the smartest race to come from behind to capture the team victory. Milton (1st-26 pts) turned back 14 schools by placing 6 finishers in the top-15 medal-winning places. Freshman Sadie Katekovich (1st-23:22) was the dominant winner followed by seniors Ashley Murray (3rd-24:48) & sister Rowan Katekovich (4th-24:56). Medal winning performances also came from sophomore Medhya Sivagenesh (11th-25:32), senior captain Grace Lochman (13th-25:46) & junior Sophia Hayes (15th-25:50).
JV Boys
Milton (2nd-76 pts) had a close race with South Forsyth (1st-51 pts) while turning back 19 schools. The Eagles were led by junior Braxton Herndon (12th-20:37) who was closely followed by sophomore Christopher Chen (13th-20:38). A medal winning performance also came from sophomore Logan Bradway (15th-20:52) & was backed up by senior captain Matthew Nichols (16th-20:58). Junior Veer Upadhyaya (20th-21:07) was Milton’s final scorer.
Open Girls
Milton (2nd-44pts) turned back 6 scoring schools in the first race of the day. Wheeler (1st-33 pts) narrowly edged the Lady Eagles for the race win with Milton placing 10-finishers in the top-20. Sophomore Sophia Koagel (6th-27:44) & senior captain Shreya Shetty (7th-27:45) led the Lady Eagles.
Open Boys
With 6 finishers in the top-9 places, Milton (1st-24 pts) was the easy race winner while besting 9 scoring schools. Sophomore Gavin Bryant (2nd-21:10) & senior Vincent Hamilton (3rd-21:12) were the Eagles top-finishers.
Eagle Cup
As the only team to score points in all six contested races, Milton (15 pts) easily defended & retained the Eagle Cup for the 3rd consecutive year.
