The Milton girls cross-country team won its first region title since 2017 and senior boys team captain Zach Patell qualified for the state meet as an individual at the GHSA Region 6-7A Championship Meet held at Chattahoochee Pointe Park in Suwanee, GA on Friday afternoon.
VARSITY GIRLS
The varsity girls team held back a strong challenge to region-rival West Forsyth (2nd-53 pts) to win the region championship. Milton (1st-51 pts) turned back 5 schools as they qualified for the state meet for the 10th consecutive year. The Lady Eagles were led by:
- Senior Captain Ella Grace Malcom (5th-19:23)-individual state qualifier
- Senior Captain Calista Cacciatore (6th-20:02)-individual state qualifier
- Junior Macy Schadt (9th-20:14)
- Sophomore Caroline Spain (14th-20:41)
- Senior Leelah Dennis (17th-20:58)
- Junior Ella Franke (24th-21:32)
- Senior Captain Emerson Armistead (25th-21:35)
JV GIRLS
Following their teammates’ lead, Milton (1st-28 pts) turned back West Forsyth (2nd-29 pts) and four other region schools to win the JV Region title! The Lady Eagles placed eight finishers in the top eleven overall spots. Top-finishers included freshman Lucie Gallagher (3rd-22:01), sophomore Hollis Thompson (4th-22:04), junior Rowan Katekovich (5th-22:13), junior Grace Lochman (7th-22:30) and freshman Aarushi Dhawan (9th-22:35).
VARSITY BOYS
Led by senior captain and state qualifier Zach Patell (6th-15:58), Milton (5th-91 pts) concluded their season and just missed out on qualifying for the state meet. The Eagles bested Forsyth Central (6th-129 pts). After Patell, Milton was represented by:
- Junior Justin Sevel (10th-16:23)
- Sophomore Everett Lawder (18th-17:00)
- Senior captain Luke Erbey (28th-17:17)
- Sophomore Jayin Batra (29th-17:19)
- Senior Chris Murray (30th-17:21)
- Freshman Will Chambers (32nd-17:33)
JV BOYS
The Eagles kept it close to rivals West Forsyth (1st-31 pts) and bested three teams to finish as region runners-up. Milton (2nd-39 pts) was led by the overall race win by senior Daniel Murray (1st-17:00) and runner-up finish by sophomore Ryan Greathouse (2nd-17:14). Also scoring for the Eagles were junior Robert Claypoole (9th-17:36), freshman Tyler Nix (12th-17:45) and senior Parker Boys (15th-17:56).
The Lady Eagles and senior captain Zach Patell will conclude their season on Saturday, November 4th at Carrollton Elementary School at the GHSA State 7A Cross Country Championships. The top four teams and the top ten individuals will be recognized at the conclusion of the state meet race.
