The Atlanta Track Club’s 53rd Annual All-Metro Track team includes junior Sam Bowers and senior Marie Repasy of the Eagles.
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Track Club honored 49 of the best student athletes in Georgia at its All-Metro High School Track and Field Awards Banquet on Wednesday, June 7 at The Stave Room. Since 1964, Atlanta Track Club has hosted the All-Metro Awards Banquet as part of its commitment to recognize outstanding high school track and field and cross country athletes.
The All-Metro athletes were selected based on criteria including performance at the state meet, season bests and head-to-head competition. Junior Sam Bowers of Milton, the 2016 GHSA State Cross Country Champions and 2017 GHSA 3200 meter run state track champion was selected for his 3rd overall All-Metro team.
Bowers 7A state track title (9:16.32) was a new Milton school record breaking the mark that had been on the books since 1999. Bowers had also been selected on two previous All-Metro cross country teams including the 2016 team where here was named overall cross country runner of the year for 2016. Bowers is only Milton’s 2nd All-Metro track selection since 2000, following Annie Kelly who received the award in 2013. Kelly now competes at the University of Colorado.
In addition to awards, two $2,500 scholarships were presented by Atlanta Track Club and The Atlanta Track Club Foundation to local track and field seniors who excelled on and off the field of play during their high school career. The 8th Annual Patty Foell Scholarship Award was presented to senior Marie Repasy of Milton High School.
Jay Judge of Walton High School was awarded the 4th Annual Hawthorne Wesley Scholarship Award. Repasy, who finished 10th in the 3200 meter run at the GHSA Class 7A state meet and 6th in the state cross country meet, is the 2nd Eagle runner to receive this outstanding scholarship following Amy Ruiz who was honored in 2015 and now competes at Georgia Tech.
