Time Trial Meet at Home Challenges Milton’s Runners
This past Saturday morning, The Eagle cross country teams opened their season with their annual Time Trial Meet on the Milton HS home course and that helped set the rosters for their first meet at Apalachee HS this coming weekend.
GIRLS RACE
Sixty-three Lady Eagles toed the line for the race (which also competed on nine different teams) and senior Macy Schadt (1st-22:01) went straight to the front and led the entire way to repeat as the time trial champion. Schadt’s time was 45-second improvement on her performance in winning last year. Junior Caroline Spain (2nd-22:57) followed in a tough battle with senior Ella Franke (3rd-24:12) through the 3km mark. Freshman Kenly Sirras (4th-25:24) & sophomore Ava Kane (5th-25:25) led a group of 5 finishers that were only separated by 11-seconds.
In the team competition, The Ella-Ments (1st-84 pts, captained by Franke) were easy winners over 8 scoring teams.
BOYS RACE
Leading from start to finish, senior captain Justin Sevel (1st-17:31) missed his course personal best by only ten seconds (which is the 7th best time ever run on the home Milton course by a Milton runner) on his way to an easy victory. Junior Everett Lawder (2nd-18:03) stayed with Sevel through the 1st mile then was in a heated battle with sophomore Will Chambers (3rd-18:17) for the runner-up spot. Junior Jayin Batra (4th-18:57) followed by fellow junior Ryan Greathouse (5th-19:19) closing out the top 5 finishers.
Greathouse captained the winning boys team, Full-House (1st-88 pts), besting 10 scoring teams.
The Milton Cross Country teams next see action Saturday, August 17th at the Apalachee Invitational Meet at Apalachee HS in Winder, GA where the Eagles will race 20 schools over five races.
